LE DIAMANT The village of the Diamond (" Le Diamant ") , 3500 inhabitants, and its neighborhood, is one of the most beautiful sites of Martinique. The Diamond derives its name from the famous volcanic rock off the sea in front of the village. A sandy beach  with coconut palms, at the feet of the hill Larcher (Morne Larcher), 477 metres,  5 km long. In the distance, 4 km away the Rock of the Diamond, 175 metres high above blue azure water with a base of 350m in diameter. Five kilometres on the left before the village, a magnificent colonial building from 18-th century, the " House of Gaoulé " . Gaoulé means it is there that " Békés " who rebelled against the Governor La Varenne. Pointe de la Chery and its Hotels, Novotel and Mercure. At feet of the Novotel, a small beach and a very quiet cove where you will be able to practise water-skiing, windsurfing  and submarine diving.  You will find also under blossoming trees, a riding school: " Les écuries du Diamant ". In the village, the beautiful classified church in the baroque style.

At the exit of the village, after the "Anse Cafard" on the left, you will visit a hut made of wooden boards, painted with pastel colour, the picturesque " House of the Convict "( Maison du Bagnard ).
Having been sentenced to 15 years of transportation, Médart ARIBOT came to settle down here. He built this hut there and lived thanks to gardening and wood carving.

Do not miss to take the small roads which lead up to the top of the hills (Mornes). From the Weather radar, Morne Pavillon 377 meters, you will have a magnificent view on the bays of Fort de France and the Diamond. And if you love hiking, take the marked out path which will bring you to the top of the Morne Larcher, from there you will be able to admire an unforgettable view, on the village and the Rock of the Diamond.

Visit Pitt of  "Morne Blanc" when on Sunday afternoons you can watch cock fights in a particularly Caribbean atmosphere..

On the West of the "Morne Larcher", by the coastal road, you will discover the village of "Anse d'Arlet" and its beautiful white church, in front of the sea. Farther down, "Grande Anse", Anse Noire and Anse Dufour very sheltered from trade winds, constitute excellent mooring for sailboats.
