The climate, the friendly inhabitants, the fascinating music,
the flavors of the Creole cuisine, the charming landscapes, everything is
made to have the holiday of your dreams in the most exotic of the French
"départements". It is one of the most diversified
and harmonious islands of the Caribbean. The island is volcanic, it offers
a variety of landscapes and surprising hills while
its size is hardly an eighth of that of Corsica. In the South of the Western
coast you'll sunbathe on the beaches of the Caribbean
Sea. The coast , facing the Atlantic Ocean offers a more
jagged relief. However, the peninsula of the Caravel, a natural park, possesses some magnificent beaches. In the North you will find the Mountain Pelée, peaking at 1397 meters, covered with a luxuriant vegetation. The city of Saint-Pierre is also renowned for its diving sites, its bay hides a dozen wrecks of vessels sunk during the eruption of 1902. The South of the island is rather dry, scattered with typical Creole houses and with sugar cane plantations. The capital, Fort de France is located on the west coast, on one of the greatest bays in the Carribbean islands, you can cross the bay by boat from the " anse à l'Ane" or " La pointe du Bout". |
